About Star Calculator

What is Star Calculator?

Star Calculator is a free tool for Fallout 76 players to plan and compare the Legendary Module cost of crafting and scrapping legendary mod boxes.

How to use

  1. Browse the list of legendary mod boxes on the left. Use the search and filters to narrow them down.
  2. Click "Scrap" or "Craft" on any box to add it to the calculator.
  3. The calculator shows the total Legendary Modules required for crafting and gained from scrapping, plus the net difference.
  4. Expand any box card to see its full effect, crafting materials, scrap yield, and a link to the Fallout Wiki.

How the calculator works

Filter the catalogue by equipment type and star count, or use search. Click a box name to view its effect, crafting materials and acquisition sources.

Craft and Scrap add one box to the corresponding calculation list. Use the quantity controls to add or remove boxes. Clear resets the calculation only; it does not clear learned recipes.

Crafting cost adds up the required legendary modules for every selected box and quantity. Materials are summed too: if one box requires 5 units of a material, three require 15.

Scrapping output depends on star count and quantity. Difference = modules from scrapping − modules needed for crafting. A negative value means a shortage; zero or positive means the planned output covers the cost. For example, crafting one one-star box costs 15 modules and scrapping five one-star boxes yields 15, giving a difference of zero.

This is a planning tool based on the catalogue. It does not read your in-game inventory or perform crafting or scrapping.

How Mod Learning works

Mod Learning lists mods whose recipes you have not marked as learned on the left, and those you have learned on the right. This is a personal checklist, not automatic synchronization with Fallout 76.

Click a name or drag a box to the other column. Click or drag it back to undo the selection. On a phone, simply tap. Selections survive navigation and reloads within your selected retention period.

Name search and the star and acquisition source filters narrow the visible lists. They do not change your selections, overall progress or the chart.

The chart shows unlearned / all boxes for each source, including Infestations, Gleaming Depths and random legendary equipment. The bright bar represents unlearned boxes and the dim part represents learned boxes. A box may have several sources and counts once in each relevant category, so category totals may exceed the number of distinct boxes.

Sources come from Fallout Wiki and updated Nuka Knights data. They are search categories, not guaranteed drops or recipe-learning odds. Boxes with no listed source appear in a separate category.

Information sources

Information about legendary mod boxes, their effects, crafting and acquisition is collected from publicly available sources:

  • Fallout Wiki — names, effect descriptions, crafting recipes and acquisition sources.
  • Nuka Knights — dataminer information about activity rewards, legendary effect pools and drop chances.

Mod cards link to the relevant sources. Different sites may provide different information or take time to reflect game updates.

What is stored and where

Cookies are small browser records automatically sent to this site with requests. They store the selected language and crafting and scrapping quantities. Large lists may be split across several cookies.

Browser local storage (localStorage) stores learned recipes, background choice, player volume and retention settings. It is separate from cookies and is not automatically sent with each request.

Search queries, filters, expanded cards, the current track, playback position and playlist selection are not saved as persistent preferences. Some of this state can survive navigation without a reload.

Data belongs to this browser and site address. Other devices and browsers have separate selections. Clearing browser data or ending a private session may remove it sooner.

Vercel Analytics is connected on this site. The controls below manage this application’s saved preferences and selections. They do not delete previously sent requests, server logs, other sites’ data or the browser cache.

Data retention period

One period applies to cookies and local storage. It starts with the first save or when you click Apply period. Later visits and changes do not extend it. Applying a new period immediately sets a new expiry date for all saved preferences.

The browser expires cookies automatically. Local data is removed when you next open the site, or within about 15 seconds of expiry while the site is open or when you return to the tab. A site cannot remove localStorage while it is closed.

Default: 2 weeks. The retention period has not started yet.

Delete saved data

This removes crafting and scrapping lists, learned recipes, language, background, volume and the retention setting. The page reloads with defaults. Deleted selections cannot be recovered. New actions after deletion may create new records.
